Service Protector, if necessary.
-
Start Service Protector.
-
Select Protector > Add to open the Add Protector window:
-
On the General tab, in the Service to protect field, choose the SmarterMail windows service, called SmarterMail Service.
There will be a green circle on the left if the SmarterMail service is already running, as it was on our server.
-
Service Protector includes several advanced features to support 24x7 operation but we recommend sticking with the defaults for now.
Click the Save button to save your settings and create a new entry in the Service Protector window.
The green shield indicates that Service Protector is actively monitoring SmarterMail:
And you can click the green circle to show information about the health of the SmarterMail service:
-
That's it! Next time your computer boots, the SmarterMail server will start automatically and Service Protector will babysit the service to promptly restart it if it stops for any reason.
We encourage you to edit SmarterMail in Service Protector and check out the many other settings that may be appropriate for your environment.
For example, send an email when the service fails, restart the server at a safe time every day (to cure resource leaks), and much more.
